By the Society for Range Management
Mike Alexander received the Outstanding Achievement in Land Stewardship Award at the Society for Range Management’s 76th Annual Meeting in Boise, Idaho earlier this February. The Award is presented by the Society for Range Management for outstanding achievement to members and other qualified individuals and groups working with rangelands.
Through a long and productive career, Alexander continues to model and demonstrate the qualities of an
exceptional rangeland management professional making outstanding contributions to the management
and sustainability of rangelands. Alexander’s influence on rangeland management has advanced from that of a regional specialist guiding progressive resource management practices on the ground to that of provincial program director fostering a positive and effective rangeland policy regime. His influence extends beyond the province of Alberta to multiple provinces and national outcomes.
If there is one quality that marks Alexander’s service to Albertans and rangelands, it’s his drive to make things work. In his own special way, he applies his intellect and scientific knowledge through his capacity to communicate with others and to find, define, test, and implement solutions that integrate and balance the needs of people with that of the rangeland resource. His continued career is enhancing the art and science of range management on Alberta rangelands and beyond.
