Dalhousie survey finds Canadians are (still) beef lovers

Undeterred by the global pandemic, Canadians — and Albertans especially — are continuing to enjoy eating beef.

According to a survey findings from Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University (in partnership with Angus Reid), a whopping 92% of Canadians are beef eaters, with 65% eating beef at least once per week.

Alberta boasts the highest rate of regular beef-eaters, at 73%.

Despite continued support, the survey also found that over the course of the last 12 months, one in four Canadians have thought about cutting beef from their diets, with the highest rate of consideration in Canadians under 35.

Of those who have considered cutting beef from their diets, the majority believe the change would be good for their health, with price, environment, and animal welfare also being among the top considerations.

The survey was conducted in May 2021, with 1,503 Canadians participating.
