2023 Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame inductees announced

This fall, seven champions of Canadian agriculture will have their names recorded in the history books as the 2023 inductees to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame.

“This year’s inductees come from across the country and across a wide array of sectors of the Canadian agricultural landscape, and we are so excited to welcome them into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame,” said Ted Menzies, the Hall of Fame Association’s president.

“These Canadian agricultural ambassadors have made lifelong contributions at the farm, regional, national, and international level that support the long-term sustainability and success of our industry.”

Representing Alberta is Garnet Altwasser of Brooks, AB. Altwasser, who was nominated for this honour by the County of Newell, has left his mark on the Canadian beef industry by establishing Lakeside Farm Industries, where he served as president and CEO for three decades. His leadership and vision for expanding Canada’s cattle feeding and beef processing capabilities led to the development of Lakeside Feeders, the country’s largest single-site cattle feeding operation, among other significant contributions with benefits to all of Alberta’s agriculture industry.

A founding director of the Alberta Cattle Feeders’ Association, Altwasser was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2018.

The other 2023 Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame inductees are:

  • John Bragg – Collingwood, Nova Scotia
  • Rory Francis – Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
  • Marcel Groleau – Thetford Mines, Quebec
  • Ron Helwer – Brandon, Manitoba
  • Robert Irving – Dieppe, New Brunswick
  • Ray Robertson – Markdale, Ontario

More information about each of this year’s inductees is available on the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame’s website.
