BCRC develops carbon-inspired webpage
The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) has published a new webpage dedicated to the relationship between beef cattle and the carbon cycle.
“This page was developed for beef producers who are interested in gaining a better understanding of carbon dynamics and what they can do on their operations to increase carbon sequestration and reduce emissions,” says Stacey Domolewski, Research and Innovation Coordinator at BCRC.

Every living thing contains carbon, and everything – including cattle, grasslands, and people – are part of the carbon cycle. Raising beef cattle can have both positive and negative impacts on the carbon cycle and different management practices can increase or decrease the sector’s carbon footprint.
“This webpage, like similar science-based topic overviews on www.beefresearch.ca, was developed to assist producers when making decisions on their operations,” says Domolewski. “There is a lot of information out there on carbon and beef production but this is an area of evolving science so we wanted to make sure the page was very clear about what we know for sure and where we need more data to back up the claims.”
The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) is Canada’s national industry-led funding agency for beef, cattle and forage research. The BCRC is funded through a portion of a producer-paid national levy as well as government and industry funding, and is directed by a committee of beef producers from across the country.
