As of November 1, 2020, the Alberta government reached an agreement with the federal government to restrict the number and types of jobs available to be filled by Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW). Some sectors, including agriculture, technology and caregiving, remain exempt from these restrictions based on acute and proven labour shortages.
Travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19 have the potential to be a barrier for TFW entering Canada. However, TFW are currently exempt from the mandatory hotel stopover at government-approved accommodations until March 14, 2021. Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) is seeking clarification on this exemption following March 14, 2021. ABP will continue to work with the Alberta government on labour issues and the Temporary Foreign Workers program.
