On March 7, 2025, federal, provincial, and territorial Ministers of Agriculture met to discuss the evolving trade relationship between Canada and the United States.
Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Ron Kostyshyn, Manitoba Minister of Agriculture, led the meeting, focusing on the impacts of recent tariffs.
Building on their February discussions, the Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a unified “Team Canada” strategy to support the agriculture and agri-food sector. This sector is crucial to the Canadian economy, providing jobs and food for millions both domestically and internationally.
The Ministers explored various strategies to help Canadian agri-food producers and processors diversify their international trade and enhance internal trade options. They emphasized the importance of business risk management (BRM) programs to address the current and future needs of producers.
Canada’s reputation as a reliable trading partner remains strong, and all levels of government are dedicated to ongoing collaboration with key partners. This commitment ensures that the Canadian agriculture sector continues to thrive and contribute to global food security.
“As Minister of Agriculture, we are united in our commitment to support our hardworking producers and to keep the sector strong. Our partnership is more important than ever as we stand together in the face of this uncertainty and work to find solutions to weather this storm,” says Minister MacAulay.
