Alberta Agricultural Products Marketing Council seeking new members

Editors note: After date of publishing, the closing date has been extended by one week from September 25, 2025 to October 2, 2024.

The Alberta Agricultural Products Marketing Council (Council) is inviting applications for three new members to join its team.

The Council, established under the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act (MAPA), plays a crucial role in providing regulatory oversight and governance for Alberta’s 19 agricultural Marketing Boards and Commissions (MCBs). The new members will support the Council’s vision of a thriving agricultural industry through strategic leadership and governance excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising the Minister on matters related to MBCs.
  • Reviewing proposed plans from MBCs and deciding on public hearings.
  • Making recommendations on the establishment, amendment, or termination of plans.
  • Conducting votes on plans and supervising MBC operations.
  • Administering regulations under MAPA.
  • Performing duties assigned by the Minister or Lieutenant Governer in Council.

The Council typically convenes six times a year, either virtually or in-person, primarily in Edmonton or Red Deer.

In line with Alberta’s commitment to equality and public policy, the Council values diversity and inclusion. This principle is fundamental to the province and is actively supported on the boards of Alberta’s public agencies.

Applicants should possess a blend of agricultural industry experience, governance knowledge, business acumen in the agriculture sector, and an understanding of government and public policy. Additional skills in legislation interpretation, clear communication, financial management, and risk management are highly valued.

This recruitment drive, under Competition #834, is spearheaded by the Ministry of Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation. Appointments are for a term of up to three years, with the possibility of reappointment for one additional term, not exceeding six years of continuous service. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply by the closing date of October 2, 2024.
