The Alberta government is investing $1.8 million to construct a new road connecting Highway 873 to the JBS Food plant, aiming to improve safety and efficiency for County of Newell residents. This project will save workers up to 90 minutes daily on their commute.
The project includes road construction and intersection improvements, with construction expected to start this spring.
Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Devin Dreeshen, says sustaining the growth agriculture is seeing requires robust transportation infrastructure.
“The City of Brooks and the County of Newell continue to grow and the recent announcement of the JBS Foods expansion has solidified this region’s position as a growing agrifood economic powerhouse,” explains Dreeshen.
A new road directly connecting to Highway 873 will make traffic flow more efficiently in this area while also improving safety and reducing the potential for collisions with larger commercial trucks. The project includes road construction and intersection improvements. Design has been completed, with a construction tender expected this spring.
