Canadian Beef Breeds Council announces new CEO

The Canadian Beef Breeds Council (CBBC) has appointed Macy Liebreich as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately. Liebreich joined CBBC last fall and has been working closely with Sandy Russell to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.

Shawn Wilson, CBBC Chair, notes Russell’s leadership since 2021 and the benefits her guidance has brought to the organization. “As we navigate this leadership change, we are fortunate to have Macy Liebreich on board. Her knowledge and expertise in global trade of seedstock semen and embryos will be valuable as we work to enhance Canada’s global influence in beef cattle genetics,” says Wilson.

Liebreich, who has a background in the seedstock sector and holds a B.COM from the University of British Columbia, aims to foster collaborative opportunities within the industry.

“It is a privilege to be involved with CBBC at this level. I appreciate the Board of Directors’ enthusiasm for continued growth. I am confident that CBBC has a strong foundation to build upon, and strengthening our membership will advance the entire industry,” explains Liebreich.

The Canadian Beef Improvement Network (CBIN) is also experiencing growth. Former CBBC CEO Sandy Russell will lead CBIN as an independent entity, working closely with key stakeholders, including CBBC. Wilson thanks Russell for her contributions to the industry during her tenure at CBBC and looks forward to her continued leadership in advancing genetic data innovations through the CBIN initiative.
