As of May 1, 2025, the United States reported a total of 11.4 million cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head. This figure represents a 2 per cent decrease compared to the same date in 2024.
In April, feedlot placements amounted to 1.61 million head, marking a 3 per cent drop from the previous year. Net placements were recorded at 1.56 million head.

April also saw marketings of fed cattle totaling 1.83 million head, which is 3 per cent lower than in 2024. Additionally, other disappearance during April was 50,000 head, reflecting an 11 per cent decrease from the previous year.
