Western Crop Innovations (WCI) has appointed Trevor Sears as the new permanent Executive Director. After a comprehensive four-month search led by WCI’s Interim board and Osborne Talent Acquisition, Sears will officially assume the role on June 2, 2025, just after WCI’s first Annual General Meeting.
Trevor Sears brings over 30 years of experience in Canada’s agriculture sector. He previously served as President and CEO of Canada Pork, where he contributed to the global competitiveness of the Canadian pork industry. His career also includes senior positions at Maple Leaf Foods, where he led international sales and strategic market development in Asia. Sears is recognized for his collaborative leadership and his ability to drive innovation and deliver results for Canadian producers through strong industry partnerships.
Jason Lenz, Interim Chair of WCI, says they are pleased to welcome Sears as Executive Director.
“His extensive experience in agriculture made him a strong candidate early on,” explains Lenz. “His leadership in both for-profit and non-profit organizations demonstrates the versatility and vision we need at WCI. Trevor’s well rounded skill set makes him a suitable fit for this role.”
Sears will work closely with Interim Executive Director David Hoekstra during his initial weeks to ensure a smooth transition. Lenz added, “We thank David for his excellent work guiding WCI over the past several weeks. His contributions have positioned us well for this next phase.”
