The Government of Canada has released its report Faster and Farther: Canada’s Methane Strategy.
The strategy outlines how Canada will implement measures across sectors of the economy, including agriculture, to reduce the largest sources of methane emissions.
The target is to reduce domestic methane emissions by more than 35 percent by 2030.
Agriculture and Livestock
Faster and Farther: Canada’s Methane Strategy references agriculture and livestock in Section 3.4 (starting on page 21). It recognizes that livestock are an important source of protein and can positively contribute to environmental objectives.
It also points to existing sector interest in reducing GHGs, specifically mentioning the Canadian Beef Advisors’ 2030 goal of reducing GHG emissions by 33 percent.
