Cow-Calf Producers: Help guide check-off dollars

Have you heard of Beef Cattle Research Council’s (BCRC) Calf 911 resources?

The resources include videos and pdf guides on everything from tube feeding newborn calves to understanding proper colostrum management.

And they were inspired thanks to producer responses to the once-every-five-years Canadian Cow-Calf Survey.

Collecting credible information directly from producers helps the industry

  • identify research priorities and information gaps,
  • develop provincial benchmarks, and
  • examine changes over time that impact producers.

Cow-Calf Producers, Your Perspective Ought to be Heard

This information also helps demonstrate the value of research to government funders and helps support efforts to improve consumer confidence in Canadian beef.

The BCRC has received 348 responses, with a goal of 500+ completed surveys by March 31

Let’s get those response numbers up, and ensure we have good representation from each region!

Contribute to the 2023 Canadian Cow-Calf Survey

Time: 30-60 minutes
Due by: March 31, 2024

Past surveys have shown an increased adoption of pain control for castration.

BCRC used this example to demonstrate to government funders that Canadian beef producers are clearly willing to modify long-standing traditions and adopt new practices that are supported by science.

Seeing how readily Canadian cow-calf producers are adopting pain control for castration is also a good message that supports consumer confidence.
