Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies supporting wildfire evacuees

In the face of wildfires, the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies (AAAS) has stepped up to provide critical assistance to evacuees and their livestock.

As flames continue to threaten communities across the province, AAAS has mobilized its network of agricultural facilities to offer refuge and support.

AAAS is recognizing the urgency of the situation and the impact it has on both human lives and livestock. Their commitment to community resilience is evident, as they open their doors to those displaced by the fires.

Resources available from AAAS

  • AAS has compiled a comprehensive map of facilities available for wildfire evacuees. These locations are strategically labeled by region, ensuring that affected individuals can find nearby shelters for their animals. From trailers and camping spaces, to dedicated livestock pens, AAS is providing a lifeline for all livestock.
  • Ag societies across Alberta have rallied together, offering their spaces and expertise. Whether it’s a fairground, an exhibition center, or a local rodeo arena, these facilities are now sanctuaries for both two-legged and four-legged evacuees. The AAAS encourages all agricultural societies with available space to join the effort by signing up on their website.
  • Thanks to Farm Credit Canada (FCC), the AAAS has secured emergency aid funding. This financial support directly benefits agricultural society members who have incurred expenses while assisting their communities during the 2023 Alberta wildfires.

As the wildfire situation evolves, the AAAS remains committed to keeping evacuees informed. They recommend monitoring Alberta Emergency updates and evacuation notices/alerts. Road closures can also impact travel, so staying informed through 511 Alberta is crucial.
