The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) is once again leading an initiative to enhance safety in the agricultural sector with the fourth annual BeGrainSafe Week, taking place from August 12 to 18, 2024.
The week-long event is dedicated to raising awareness about the hazards associated with grain handling and storage, aiming to prevent tragic incidents of grain entrapment and engulfment.
One of the highlights of BeGrainSafe Week 2024 is the free online forum, “Celebrating BeGrainSafe Week: Grain Entrapment Hazards, Risk, and Prevention,” scheduled for August 15, 2024. This forum will feature insights from Dan Marsellus, Fire Chief of Kneehill County, Alberta, and BeGrainSafe Master Trainer, alongside Catherine Rylatt, co-founder of the Grain Handling Safety Coalition, in the U.S. Their discussion will focus on the importance of prevention in grain safety, the dangers and risks associated with grain handling, and the frequency and impact of grain-related incidents.
The BeGrainSafe program also addresses grain entrapment dangers through comprehensive prevention education, rescue training, and on-site workplace training. This year’s BeGrainSafe Week features a variety of resources and events designed to educate and protect those working in the industry.
In addition to the forum, CASA is sharing a wealth of grain safety resources available online. These include safety advice articles, feature articles, infographics, and Toolbox Talks, which are brief, informal talks about specific grain safety topics. These resources are designed to be easily accessible and shareable, helping to spread the message of grain safety far and wide.
CASA encourages everyone in the agricultural community to participate in BeGrainSafe Week by utilizing these resources and spreading awareness on social media using the hashtags #BeGrainSafe and #FarmSafetyEveryday.
