Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) joined agriculture leaders from Canada, the United States and Mexico in Calgary this week for the 35th annual Tri-National Agricultural Accord.
ABP Chair Doug Roxburgh, Vice Chair Kent Holowath and Finance Chair Brenda Rosadiuk attended the gathering, which runs from September 28 to October 1. ABP also hosted a hospitality suite on September 30, welcoming delegates from across North America.

The accord brings provincial and state representatives together to discuss shared agricultural priorities. This year’s agenda includes animal disease prevention, plant health and rural development. Trade opportunities and stronger relationships across the three countries are also central to the gathering.
“The Accord brings us together for important discussions affecting our farmers, ranchers, agri-food processors and rural and Indigenous communities across North America,” says Sawyer. “This is our chance to explore economic opportunities, focus on food security, spark innovation in agriculture and build lasting and productive relationships.”
Animal health and market access are issues that cross borders, and decisions made across North America can affect producers here at home. For Alberta cattle producers, discussions around disease preparedness, trade and cross-border collaboration can have direct implications for the industry’s future. ABP’s presence provides Alberta’s cattle sector with an opportunity to connect with agricultural leaders and industry representatives as those issues are discussed.
According to the Government of Alberta, approximately 180 people are attending this year’s accord, including representatives from almost 30 U.S. states and at least four Mexican states. This is the second time Alberta has hosted the event.
ABP thanks Minister of Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation Tara Sawyer, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and the Government of Alberta for hosting this year’s gathering.
