ABP welcomes Government Relations and Policy Manager

Mikayla Janssen will be joining the ABP team as Government Relations and Policy Manager, effective October 19, 2026.

Alberta Beef Producers is pleased to announce that Mikayla Janssen will be joining the team as Government Relations and Policy Manager, effective October 19, 2026.

Mikayla is a graduate of the University of Victoria, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science. She has served as Ministerial Assistant, Policy Advisor, and most recently Chief of Staff in several ministry offices, including Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. Through these roles, Mikayla has developed extensive experience in public policy, government relations, and advocacy strategy

As Government Relations and Policy Manager, Mikayla will strengthen ABP’s relationships and communications with elected officials and senior staff members in the government. She will play a key role in ensuring the interests of cattle and beef producers are considered in legislative, regulatory, and policy decisions that affect the industry.

ABP’s advocacy efforts are guided by producer-approved policy positions outlined in the Policy Manual, available on albertabeef.org. While this work spans a range of topics, some of ABP’s current priorities and areas of focus for Mikayla will include:

  • Continuing the work to strengthen risk management programming for cattle producers, including through consultations on Next Policy Framework.
  • Advocating for practical, low-burden water reporting requirements as part of the evolution of the Water Act.
  • Working with Canadian and U.S. partners to reinforce the importance of a stable, integrated North American cattle and beef market.

Mikayla will also lead ABP’s engagement in events that support government relations, including overseeing the planning and execution of the annual Alberta Beef Industry Stampede Summit.

Please join us in welcoming Mikayla to the ABP team. We look forward to the expertise and leadership she will bring in advancing the interests of Alberta’s cattle producers.
