Shaping the next federal agricultural policy framework

Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) participated in a recent roundtable with Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Heath MacDonald, to discuss priorities for the next federal agricultural policy framework.

Held at NAIT in Edmonton, the roundtable brought together representatives from Alberta commodity organizations to provide input on the future direction of agricultural policy. Discussions focused on the development of the Next Policy Framework, which will succeed the current Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

General Manager Brad Dubeau represented ABP, sharing perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing the Alberta beef sector.

Following the roundtable, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) thanked participants for their contributions, noting that the discussion and stakeholder feedback will help inform the policy statement expected to be announced this summer.

“The thoughtful dialogue and diverse viewpoints shared during the session will play an important role in informing the development of the Next Policy Framework and ensuring it reflects the priorities, challenges and opportunities facing the sector,” AAFC told participants.

AAFC also emphasized that engagement with producer organizations is essential to building policies that support a resilient, innovative and competitive Canadian agri-food sector.

The federal government launched consultations on the Next Policy Framework earlier this year, seeking input from producers, industry organizations and governments across the country.

ABP will continue to advocate for policies that support a competitive, sustainable and profitable Alberta beef industry as development of the framework continues.
