Five insights from the latest ABP Magazine

The Fall 2025 Issue of ABP Magazine published by Alberta Beef Producers highlights leadership, innovation, stewardship, and momentum across the beef industry. Here are five insights, among many examples, worth a closer look.

1. Taking charge: All for the Beef

We’ve certainly had an active time as your beef cattle commission for the past few months

Brad Dubeau, ABP General Manager

He talks the key factors behind recent decisions while providing an overview of ABP activity.

2. Smart Stewardship from Plateau Cattle Co.

John Smith and Laura Laing’s operation shows how conservation and production can work hand in hand. From fencing riparian areas to using solar water systems, their approach reflects a deep respect for land and livestock.

Doing our best to work with nature and protect the environment goes hand in hand with our objective to run an efficient cow-calf operation

– Laura Laing

3. Youth Leadership Shaping the Industry’s Future

The Canadian Cattle Young Leaders (CYL) program continues to grow, connecting emerging producers with mentors across the sector. This year saw 15 Albertans take part in the semi-finals with several advancing to the final.

Whether you get knocked down, dust off, get back up, and keep going … I know I will learn and grow from this experience.

Denay Bjornson, CYL finalist

4. New Market Momentum Overseas

Canada Beef is expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, where demand for high-quality protein continues to climb. Market development work in Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines is laying the groundwork for future export growth.

5. Innovation Thrives at the Ranch Level

From adaptive grazing systems to low-stress handling and genetic selection, Alberta ranchers continue to drive progress on stewardship, animal welfare, and efficiency. The stories across this issue show the province’s beef sector leading by example.
