The Canadian Beef Industry Conference (CBIC) runs August 17–20 in Winnipeg, bringing together producers and representatives from across Canada’s beef industry for meetings, discussions and conference programming.
Alberta Beef Producers is represented in person and virtually throughout the meetings and events surrounding CBIC, with several important national industry discussions taking place during the week.
Alongside the conference program, national beef organizations are holding meetings focused on priorities and issues affecting producers across the country, including the Canadian Cattle Association Semi-Annual Meeting, Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef AGM, Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency AGM, and the Canadian Cattle Youth Council AGM. The national TESA recipient is also announced in conjunction with CBIC.
The conference begins with a field tour hosted by Manitoba Beef Producers, followed by three days of industry meetings, presentations and breakout sessions.
Sessions throughout the week will explore a range of issues relevant to Canada’s beef sector, including market uncertainty, forage and drought, communication across generations, and public policy.
Canada Beef will also host breakout sessions examining emerging consumer trends and efforts to build demand for Canadian beef. Topics include the potential impact of growing GLP-1 medication use on dietary patterns and consumer behaviour, as well as efforts to communicate the Canadian Beef Advantage through consumer marketing, education, industry training and market development.
The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) will present the Canadian Beef Industry Award for Outstanding Research and Innovation during the CBIC Banquet. The award recognizes a researcher whose leadership, mentorship and innovative contributions have helped advance Canada’s beef industry.
Student awards and a poster competition are also part of this year’s program.
