Deadlines approaching on interprovincial trade and enhanced feed ban consultations

There are only a few days remaining for producers to have their voices heard through public consultations on two proposed regulatory changes relevant to Canada’s beef industry. 

One consultation focuses on interprovincial trade, including a proposal that would allow, under specific circumstances and for a limited time, provincially inspected meat to move across provincial borders. 

The second examines proposed updates to Canada’s enhanced feed ban, including changes to the management of specified risk material (SRM) that reflect Canada’s negligible BSE risk status and current scientific understanding.  

Alberta Beef Producers has reviewed both proposals and is participating in the consultation process. 

Producers are also encouraged to submit comments directly through the federal consultation process. 

The interprovincial trade consultation closes August 26, 2026, while the enhanced feed ban and SRM consultation closes September 9, 2026.
