Alberta junior wins top spot in Limousin herd building program

The Canadian Junior Limousin Association (CJLA) has announced the winners of its second Herd Building Incentive Program, created to support young cattle producers in expanding their involvement with the Limousin breed.

This year, Alberta’s own Kira Axley of Czar area earned first place in the alumni category, receiving a $1,000 live animal voucher.

The program is open to all CJLA members and recent alumni up to age 25. Applicants were asked to submit a video highlighting their experience with the Limousin breed, reflecting on the past, present and future.

Axley currently sits on the board of Alberta Limousin Association. She operates K. Axley Limousin at alongside her family’s farm and purebred limousin operation. Growing up in the Limousin breed and having found great success exhibiting Limousin influenced cattle through the 4-H program, Kira has become a strong advocate of the versatility and profitability the breed offers.

By supporting juniors and young alumni, the Herd Building Incentive Program helps foster the next generation of cattle producers and encourages the growth of Limousin genetics across Canada.

Congratulations to all the winners:

  • 1st Alumni Division – Kira Axley, Czar, AB
  • 2nd Alumni Division – Nolan McLarty, West Lorne, ON
  • 1st Senior Division – Emma Qually, Rose Valley, SK
  • 1st Intermediate Division – Wyatt Gibbons, Roblin, ON
  • 1st Peewee Division – Addison Lawrence, Durham, ON
