Beef Cattle Code of Practice open for public comment

Producers are encouraged to provide their feedback from April 13 to June 12 

The National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) and the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) have announced that the public comment period for the updated Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle is now open.

The 60-day period gives producers the opportunity to review the draft Code and provide input before it is finalized. 

“The public comment period is an important opportunity for producers across Canada to review the draft Code and provide feedback on how it applies to their operations,” says CCA President Tyler Fulton. 

“Producer perspectives from across the country help ensure the Code reflects the diversity of Canadian beef production systems and remains practical for producers who raise cattle.” 

For those planning to take part, below are a few notes about how the process works and how to get involved. 

How the comment process works 

Feedback is collected through an online survey, which is structured by section of the Code. 

Producers can: 

• Download and review the full draft Code (available via NFACC) 
• Submit comments on specific sections or topics 
• Save progress and return to complete the survey later 
• Provide general comments at the end of the survey 

Comments can be submitted as an individual or on behalf of an organization.

The public comment period runs from April 13 to June 12, 2026.
