Beef Code deadline reminder notice

Canada’s beef sector has until June 12, 2026 to review and provide feedback on the draft updated Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle.

The National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), alongside the Canadian Cattle Association, launched the public comment period May 13.

The draft Code and online submission portal are available through the National Farm Animal Care Council website. All feedback must be submitted through the online system.

The Code includes both requirements and recommended practices related to beef cattle care and handling. Participants can review the full draft document or navigate directly to sections of interest.

According to NFACC, the Code update process is led by a 15-member Code Committee that includes producers, veterinarians, researchers, animal welfare representatives, enforcement officials, and government participants from across Canada.

A peer-reviewed Scientific Committee report summarizing research on priority welfare topics for beef cattle is also available online and helped inform development of the draft Code.

Codes of Practice are developed through a consensus-based, multi-stakeholder process and serve as Canada’s national understanding of animal care requirements and recommended practices for farm animals.

The draft Code can be viewed and submissions made through NFACC’s web site at https://www.nfacc.ca/codes-of-practice/beef-cattle.
