Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency launches scholarship to support agriculture students

The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency has introduced a new scholarship aimed at encouraging and supporting students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture, agricultural research, or related fields such as marketing.

The scholarship offers $2,000 annually to one deserving student.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident
  • Be accepted to or currently attending a designated post-secondary institution
  • Be enrolled in a full-time program related to:
    • Agriculture or agricultural business
    • Marketing, communications, or public relations
    • Science and research, including veterinary medicine
    • Human health and nutrition
    • Policy and economics

Preference will be given to applicants who are active beef producers or have an agricultural background, although this is not mandatory.

Interested students must submit the following to the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency:

  • An application form
  • A link to a creative video (maximum two minutes) showcasing how their agricultural background and education can contribute to the future of Canada’s beef and veal industry. The video must be posted on YouTube and marked as public
  • An official acceptance letter or current enrollment document from a designated post-secondary institution

The recipient will be chosen based on the video content and their commitment to improving and growing Canada’s beef and veal industry in innovative ways. Knowledge of Canada’s national beef strategy, check-off system, and national organization is preferred.

Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2025. The scholarship winner will be announced at the Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency’s Annual General Meeting and the award will be paid by October 1 of the award year.

About the Author

The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency administers the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off; a mandatory levy collected on cattle sales throughout Canada to fund research and marketing activities on behalf of the entire industry. It is collected from cattle producers when they market their cattle by provincial organizations, using their existing collection systems involving auction markets, order buyers, brand inspectors and others who handle cattle sales. The Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off provides industry funding for the Beef Cattle Research Council responsible for the industry’s national research program, Canada Beef for market development and promotion, and for public and stakeholder engagement, administered by the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) in partnership with Canada Beef and under the oversight of the Canadian Beef Advisors.
