The assessment process required to hire temporary foreign workers in Canada is moving online this spring.
Canadian employers hiring under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program are required to first submit an Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application to Service Canada. As of April 3, 2023, this application process will be available online only.
Employers applying prior to the transition date are encouraged to use the LMIA Online Portal.
Applying for this assessment is mandatory for employers who want to hire temporary foreign workers through the Agricultural Stream. An LMIA determines if hiring a temporary foreign worker is necessary and assesses the impact of hiring this worker on Canada’s job market.
More information on the LMIA application process and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program is available on the Employment and Social Development Canada website.
