Third cohort of the Canadian Agricultural Youth Council unveiled

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), has announced the members of the third cohort of the Canadian Agricultural Youth Council (CAYC). This new cohort includes nine fresh faces and 13 returning members from the second cohort, all set to serve 18-month terms.

The CAYC, established in 2020, serves as a consultative body to Minister MacAulay and AAFC. The Council’s role is to provide advice; foster ongoing dialogue on food-related challenges and opportunities; share information and best practices; and advise on policies and programs impacting the agriculture and agri-food sectors.

There’s no doubt that young people are the future of the sector, but they’re also leading the way today. The Canadian Agricultural Youth Council brings together folks from right across Canada to share their unique perspectives, and this forum is vitally important to help us develop policies and programming that will support the next generation of farmers,” says The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. “I would like to congratulate all of the new and returning members and thank past members for their hard work and dedication to Canadian agriculture.

The third cohort of the CAYC represents a diverse array of subsectors from across the agriculture and agri-food value chain, including producers, researchers, and members of non-governmental organizations. Their insights will help shape AAFC’s policies, programs, planning, and decision-making processes.

The new Council’s first meeting is scheduled to take place next month.
