Inaugural Kids FarmSafe Week launched in Canada

The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) is introducing the first-ever Kids FarmSafe Week, taking place from May 13 to 19, 2024. This innovative program aims to nurture the future of agriculture by supporting the health and safety of young people who work in the agricultural industry.

Farm kids represent the next generation, and according to CASA, it is the responsibility of the current generation to keep them safe.

Between 1990 and 2020, 435 children and youth lost their lives due to agriculture-related incidents. The highest incidents of deaths involving children on farms occur in the youngest age group (four and under).

CASA is emphasizing three points this year for keeping kids safe on the farm, including:

  • Age Appropriate Tasks: Involve children in tasks that match their mental, emotional, and physical capabilities. Safety should always be the priority.
  • Awareness: During Kids FarmSafe Week, CASA encourages farm families and communities to raise awareness about health and safety risks for children and youth.
  • Resources: Visit Kids FarmSafe to access valuable resources related to farm safety.

Kids FarmSafe Week is sponsored by BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions,. CASA is funded in part by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

Find more information by visiting CASA’s website.
