Olympian named 4-H Canada Distinguished Alumni Award recipient

Canadian Olympian Sage Watson has been named the recipient of the 2021 4-H Canada Distinguished Alumni Award.

Watson grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Alberta, where she was an active participant in 4-H. She has a degree in Business Marketing from the University of Arizona, is an NCAA Champion, and has competed in the Olympics, Pan American Games, and the World Athletics Championships.

“Sage Watson is the very definition of a responsible, caring, and contributing leader, and we are honoured to add her name to the illustrious list of Distinguished Alumni Award recipients,” says 4-H Canada CEO, Shannon Benner. “In addition to her incredible accomplishments as an elite athlete, Sage is a remarkable role model who advocates for female athletes, donates time and energy to her community, and continually gives back to youth.”

Watson advocates against media sexualization of female athletes. She also reaches out to youth through speaking and volunteering, and has created a foundation to provide shoes to underprivileged student athletes in her community. In addition, Watson is an Ambassador for Canada Beef.

“Canada Beef has been extremely pleased to be able to foster our relationship with Sage to serve as a Canadian beef ambassador and influencer for consumers in Canada and around the world. Clearly, Sage is a tremendous example of the 4-H ethic in application to all aspects of life and we congratulate her on this latest achievement,” says Canada Beef Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Ron Glaser.

She is being recognized “for the positive change she effects in the world as an elite athlete, mentor, philanthropist, and changemaker.

The Award is sponsored by Glacier FarmMedia. It will be presented at the 2022 4-H Canada Leadership Awards on February 23, 2022.
